Dr. Stein has always remained on the cutting edge of dental technology. He has been widely recognized for his experience with dental lasers through stories in the media, and has lectured around the world on the topic. Dr. Stein also was the first dentist in the Boston area to incorporate the iTero™ digital technology to his practice.
The revolutionary Cadent iTero™ system is a digital scanner that greatly enhances the accuracy of dental impressions. Before digital imaging, patients needing impressions to fit a dental restoration had to endure bulky trays of thick impression gel. Taking conventional impressions, or moulds, was an uncomfortable and frustrating process which sometimes produced flawed results and necessitated a second round of impressions. But the new iTero™ scanning technique is beneficial to both the dentist and patient, by producing fast, virtually perfect results.
Dr. Stein uses the iTero™ system to optically scan the teeth and bite when patients need to be fitted for a dental crown or bridge. The images are then transferred to the Cadent lab, and used to craft a model of the restoration. Because the images are so accurate, the need for multiple office visits to obtain adequate impressions is completely eliminated. Patients are pleased with the ease of the process and how well their restorations fit.
The intraoral camera is another innovation that is beneficial to both dentist and patient. The intraoral camera consists of a small probe with a lens on the end. Dr. Stein moves the camera around the inside of the mouth, taking video images which are displayed on a computer screen. Dr. Stein can freeze the images to point out an area of concern to the patient, and record information for future analysis. Based on his findings during the examination, Dr. Stein can judge the condition of the teeth and gums, identify potential problem areas, and make recommendations for treatment.
We use an electric hand piece at our practice instead of the traditional dental drill. When compared to the loud, hissing dental drill of the past, the new electric hand piece operates quietly and gently, allowing Dr. Stein to make controlled, precise movements. The vibrations are much steadier and more consistent with these new tools, and easier for us to sterilize.
A panoramic X-ray provides a comprehensive view of the patient's mouth, teeth, and jawbone. The X-rays also capture images of the nasal passage, sinuses, and joints. This makes it easier for Dr. Stein to detect any abnormalities, fractures, impacted teeth, or cysts and start treatment sooner.
