When it comes to getting a great smile that leaves a lasting mark on people, one of the most important things is the brightness and whiteness of that smile. A striking white smile will make you look more appealing and attractive to others. Not everyone has that sort of smile, however, which is why it’s important that you consider undergoing teeth whitening treatment. At our Boston cosmetic dentistry office, teeth whitening treatment is a great way to enhance the whiteness and brightness of your smile by several shades.

Teeth whitening is extremely effective against surface stains on the teeth cased by various beverages, foods, and other substances. The process will involve the application of a bleaching agent to the surface of the teeth. During professional teeth whitening, this bleaching agent is much, much stronger than the bleaching substances found in over-the-counter teeth whitening treatments.

A number of patients who have undergone Boston teeth whitening with us have mentioned that their teeth feel sensitive after a whitening treatment. This is actually common for a lot of people whether they’re getting professional whitening done in our office or using a take-home kit. This sensitivity is caused by the bleaching agent coming into contact with the gumline.

There are a few things that you can do to address tooth sensitivity, and a few things that we can do as well. On our side, we can apply a desensitizer to your teeth after teeth whitening treatment, which will help reduce any discomfort that you may feel. When it comes to things you can do, the best things to do is minimize any discomfort by using a soft bristle toothbrush and rinsing your mouth with lukewarm water. If you’re using a take-home kit of some kind, be careful with the bleaching agent and be sure not to use too much.
