What Is All-on-4? A Superior Implant Denture

All-on-4 denture

Struggling with widespread tooth loss? We have a solution: All-on-4 dentures. They're one of the effective tooth restoration options offered by the makers of All-on-X.

With All-on-4 dentures, our dentists can secure your custom dentures using just four dental implants per full arch — which can make them easier to qualify for when compared with other implant dentures. We can tailor the number of implants used based on your needs, such as available bone tissue. Other All-on-X options include the similar All-on-6 system.

Implant Dentures Can Benefit Your Oral Health

When it comes to dentures, only those with implants can actually improve your oral health. How? Dental implants can actually stimulate your bone tissue. This prevents bone recession — a common problem that often follows tooth loss.

All-on-4 dental implants and dentures also have an added benefit when compared to other implant dentures. Because they require less bone tissue and use fewer implants, they can be an excellent option for those who aren't eligible for traditional implant-supported dentures.

Am I Candidate for All-on-X? Take a Look at the Qualifications

While we cannot confirm if you're a candidate until you've completed your consultation, it can be helpful for patients to get an idea of what we look for. You may be eligible for All-on-X if:

You Have Enough Bone Tissue

One of the main reasons why dental implants are so effective is because they fuse, or osseointegrate, with your jawbone. All-on-X implants require less bone tissue than other types of implant-supported dentures. If you still do not have enough bone material to qualify, we can perform a bone grafting procedure.

You Have Healthy Gums

For patients considering All-on-4 dental implants and dentures, it's crucial to have healthy gums. Like with your bone tissue, your dental implant will need to osseointegrate with your gums. If you have periodontal disease, it will need to be treated beforehand to ensure the best potential results.

You Have No More Teeth

In order to be eligible for dentures, you'll need to missing all of your natural teeth. If your remaining teeth are severely broken or decayed, we'll do all we can to explore options that save your teeth before turning to dentures. If your teeth cannot be saved, we can perform extractions to prepare you for dental implants.

Is All-on-X Covered by Insurance?

Like all other dental implants, All-on-X implants are not covered by insurance; however, your denture may be. It's important to remember that All-on-4 or All-on-X dental implants and dentures are an investment in yourself. Implant dentures can prevent further problems like bone loss. They can also avoid common pitfalls of traditional dentures, like inconsistent bite patterns, slippage, or TMJ troubles.

How Can I Pay for My All-on-X Treatment?

Dental Financing

From All-on-4 to All-on-6 and more, a new smile is closer than it seems. In fact, for patients who need help spacing out the costs of their care, we accept financing from different lenders.

Insurance Plans

Though All-on-X implants will not be eligible for dental insurance, they're not the only component of your treatment. Your provider may help with your dentures and supplementary care.

Cash or Card

Our Boston dental patients often pay for their All-on-X implants and dentures using cash or most major credit cards. These methods can be combined with financing or applicable insurance.

Technology Spotlight CAD/CAM Machine

CAD/CAM software
We're proud to put our patients first by investing in technology like digital impressions and computer-guided surgery. One of the most important items we use for All-on-4 treatment is our CAD/CAM machine. This advanced dentistry tool allows us to plan out your treatment.

What Might My Treatment Look Like?

While All-on-4 treatment can take longer than receiving traditional dentures, the benefits will last for years to come. The process typically goes like this:
Worried about having an incomplete smile? We can provide a temporary denture to wear until your treatment is complete.
Worried about having an incomplete smile? We can provide a temporary denture to wear until your treatment is complete.

Candidacy Consultation

First, our Boston dentists will sit down with you to listen to what you have to say. They'll examine your smile and assess your options, giving you an honest answer.

Preparatory Treatments

Even if you're not a candidate outright, you may be eligible after supplementary procedures like extractions and bone grafts. Once we have performed those treatments, you must wait to fully heal before any further care.

Implant Placement

With this surgery and any subsequent ones, we'll ensure you're fully comfortable using dental anesthetic. Then, using guided computer surgery, our dentist will place your implants. Afterwards, ithey will need about three to six months to heal and osseointegrate. We'll give you a temporary denture to wear, so you're not without a smile.

Abutment Placement

The next stage of your treatment will be abutment placement, which may occur at the same time as your implant surgery or may be a separate surgery. Like with implants, your mouth may need to heal before we can finish your treatment.

Denture Placement

Finally, we will secure your customized All-on-4 denture to your abutments. We will ensure that it's fitting properly — and that you're happy with your new smile — before sending you home.

To secure a full arch of dentures, the All-on-X system can use as few as six or eight implants. Our Boston dentists will place these in your jawbone and gums. Over time, as your healing allows, they will secure your abutments and personally-tailored dentures.
